Old Dominion Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc., we are proud to be the leader in meeting the prosthetic and orthotic needs of Central Virginia.

From our beginning as a small company and throughout our growth and expansion, ODP&O has stayed on the cutting edge of both quality and commitment. Old Dominion Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc., was founded in 1976 by Ivan E. Letner, Jr. in Charlottesville, Virginia. A practitioner in the field of prosthetics since 1965, he became certified by the American Board for Certification (ABC) in 1975. He continues to actively participate in advances in the field of prosthetics, through continuing education seminars and certification programs. When ODP&O was incorporated in 1976, there were three employees. Ivan Letner, Sr., joined his son in the business soon after, forming a strong family alliance. Mr. Letner, Sr., is considered one of the founding fathers in the field of prosthetics, and has practiced since 1932.

Our Growth

Old Dominion Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc., has since grown to over a dozen employees, including ABC certified practitioners, ABC registered technicians and a full complement of qualified office staff. In 1995, the company relocated to its present office location on West Rio Road in Charlottesville. In 1996, a facility was established in Lynchburg, Virginia, followed in 1997 by another in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Old Dominion Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc., is committed to providing the highest levels of patient support and care, in keeping with the standards of professional and ethical conduct set forth by the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists. Attainable through research, literature, and education, these standards of ABC certification are the measures against which ODP&O holds its staff, products and services.

Service

We are dedicated to establishing long-term caring relationships with patients, family members, and physicians. It is essential to us to maintain our integrity and responsibility to those we serve.

We offer a variety of patient care services from hospital to home. Free evaluation, frequent follow-up, and communication with the patient's physician, therapist, and family are all ways that Old Dominion Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc., cares for patients. Assistance is available on an emergency basis 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

New TracerCAD systems make fine-tuning the fit of a prosthesis a quicker and more effective procedure. The prosthetist is now able to make all the necessary modifications on a socket while the patient is in the office - the patient can provide valuable input, and the interactive process helps ensure the most comfortable fit.

Continuing Commitment

All of our practitioners are certified by the American Board for Certification. In addition, our practitioners and technicians stay abreast of the frequent changes and advances in the fields of prosthetics and orthotics through continuing education courses and by attending scientific symposiums throughout the world such as the annual Scientific Symposium sponsored by the America Academy of Orthotics and Prosthetics. Our staff members continually learn about new products and the use of the most up-to-date procedures in the care of our patients, such as the TracerCAD equipment. Seminars on a wide variety of topics are presented during annual American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association National Assemblies. Trade shows there by manufacturers give our practitioners opportunities for hands-on examinations of new products.

O ld Dominion Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc., also has a dedication to helping our

community through various activities. We regularly sponsor blood drives at our office in Charlottesville. We are members of the Central Virginia and Harrisonburg/Rockingham Early Intervention Councils, and sponsored a benefit golf tournament for the Central Virginia EIC. We have also begun to work with the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce and Rockingham County Schools in a program that places teachers in area businesses for a week during the summer, so they may take their experiences back to their students in the fall.

We work to educate the public about our services by providing regular inservices for area physicians, hospital nursing staff, physical and occupational therapists, rehab centers, Wellness Centers, Amputee Support Group meetings, and nursing home staff. Our topics vary to meet the needs of the group we are serving, and we tailor the format to each group. Inservices range from showing products and their applications, to informal open house events.
